Interior Design
Interior Design is about finding a comfortable balance between the different furnishings in the space. This balance is achieved by placing objects with varying characteristics in places where they complement one another. The idea is to create relationships between your possessions, in order to develop a whole which is more impressive than the sum of its parts. Scale refers to the size of architectural features and furnishings within a space. With scale, finding a balance is particularly important, as otherwise you will get a room that feels chaotic, and looks peculiar. Interior design is the trade of planning the layout and furnishings of an architectural interior. Interior design is also the branch of architecture dealing with the selection and organization of furnishings for an architectural interior. Architecture is the discipline dealing with the principles of design and construction and ornamentation of fine buildings.
Interior design concerns itself with more than just the visual or ambient enhancement of an interior space, it seeks to optimize and harmonize the uses to which the interior environment will be put. Interior Designers approach projects from different perspectives. These approaches to design cut across specialties. An interior designer is responsible for the interior design, decoration, and functionality of a client’s space, whether the space is commercial, industrial, or residential. Interior designers work closely with architects and clients to determine the structure of a space, the needs of the occupants, and the style that best suits both. The position is a combination of engineer and artist, and it takes a unique type of mind to handle both of those concepts well. Interior designers have to be good with more than color, fabric, furniture; they must know materials, have budgeting skills, communicate well, oversee the ordering, installation, and maintenance of all objects that define a space. They plan, implement all aesthetic and functional decisions, from faucet handles to miles of carpeting. Interior designers are hired for their expertise in a variety of styles and approaches. Therefore, they have to be able to balance their own tastes and their clients’ tastes. |
